Drawing & Sketching

Getting students to make simple drawings and sketches of ideas serves many purposes. Tech ed students become graphically literate to communicate design ideas for eventual fabrication. Math and science students often accompany rough sketches with words to get their ideas across to others. In MOVIE 1 you can hear MIT's Ernesto Blanco describing some of these advantages:

  • Visualize new ideas without building them.
  • Compile collections of ideas quickly.
  • Anticipate problems before fabricating (making) them.
  • Render design ideas that are too complicated to hold in memory.
  • Illustrate parts of a design that are not visible until built.
